Hydraulic Design of Sediment-Trapping Basin in Wadis Using Empirical Equations and Deposition Processes

چکیده

Reservoirs overflow during flood season because of sedimentation cycles, which severely affects their effectiveness. Siltation is a major problem in dams constructed waterways arid and semi-arid areas. Therefore, the reservoirs wadis lose capacity due to sedimentation. This study determines an optimal design trapping basin on steep slope areas for Wadi Bishah Asir region southwestern Saudi Arabia. The empirical criteria sediment-trapping used mitigate effects King Fahd Dam. upstream dam located wadi presented. Moreover, annual suspended bed sediment load (Qs Qb) techniques estimating volume sediments are used, relationship between efficiency size determined. basins selected reduce amount sediment. One important results this tries create new concept trap wadis, obtained were evaluated using theoretical equations determine appropriate basin. demonstrate that dimensions confinement Lb × Wb hs = 3500 500 1.5 m. Sediment delivery processes at basin scale

Abstract Since eroded sediments are produced from different sources distributed throughout a basin, sediment delivery processes at basin scale have to be modelled by a spatially distributed approach. In this paper a new theoretically based relationship is proposed for evaluating the sediment delivery ratio, SDR{, of each morphological unit, i, into which a basin is divided. Then, using the sedi...

Hydraulic Resistance Induced by Deposition of Sediment Inporous Medium

The deposition of the instantaneously released sediment into a gravel matrix and the hydraulic resistance induced by the rapid siltation are investigated herein. The experimental results reveal that the depositional patterns of the sediment are governed by the gravel-sediment size ratio, the amount of sediment released, and the seepage flowrate. The observations also indicate that the stable st...

Empirical Relation for Prediction of Sediment-Trapping Coefficient in the Experimental Flume of the Stepped Slit Check Dams

Eroded sediments from catchment areas transport by streams and deposit in downstream less steep areas. Despite reducing the useful life of various hydraulic structures including reservoir dams, flood walls, and bridges, this phenomenon changes the main river hydraulic conditions and increases the flood prone farms in the riverbank area. Check dams are among the structures that can prevent form ...
